Copper sulfate’s blue isn’t just pretty – it’s chemistry in action 🔵✨

💡 Ligands donate lone pairs to the central copper cation, forming complex ions

⚡ This splits the copper’s d‑orbitals into two energy levels

🌈 Electrons absorb orange‑red light energy to jump the gap (d-d transitions), so we see the complementary color with our eyes = BLUE

📏 Bigger splitting = higher energy absorbed, shorter wavelength (think violet vs red on the EM spectrum)

🔑 Factors that change the color:
- Identity of the ligand (stronger bonds = bigger gap)
- Identity of the transition metal
- Charge on the central ion

So the coloured compounds you see is a direct fingerprint of complex ion formation.
